The Ministry of Tourism in Thailand has stated that Thailand is a popular destination amongst film makers and there have been more than 50 requests for locations in the country for film shooting.
According to Wansiri Morakul, of Department of Tourism Thailand, the requests for locations will generate an investment of more than Bt687 million. According to her a high budget film production unit from New Zealand will start filming a shoot in Thailand from April.
The Tourism Department of Thailand has lined up five roadshows this year to promote the film making potentials of the country. Two of them have already been held in South Korea and the United Kingdom. The other three will be conducted in France, The US and Hong Kong. The campaign will assure filmmakers about the locations being unaffected by the ravages of the previous year's floods.
Amongst the film making requests there are 13 documentaries, 28 advertisement shoots and 4 feature films. The countries which have requested for shooting films are Japan with 14 productions, Europe with 12, India having 7 productions, South Korea with 5, The US with 4, Hong Kong 3 and singular productions from China and Australia.
The income generated through foreign film shoots in 2011 had dropped because of the floods which had slowed down film contracts.
